IMedia

Our intent for the Creative iMedia curriculum at Crompton House is to enable students to become more critically aware of the media that they consume. Each student will develop the skills and ability to engage, participate and communicate with a range of media products enabling them to become better communicators, not just through media products but also face to face. In a media dominated society, we want to champion students understanding of the power and influence media can have, from well-established and respected newspapers to social media influencers. Students who have studied media will have a greater understanding of the world around them and how to communicate with all the people that live in it.
We offer GCSE OCR Creative iMedia which is 60% NEA and 40% exam at Key Stage 4. Our aim is always to make the curriculum as accessible as possible. This allows for students with different strengths to access the media course. The department is well-resourced with IT suits, cameras, video cameras and the complete Adobe Creative Suite. Having these resources allows students the option to produce a variety of media products such as websites, videos and magazines covers. Lesson observations and work scrutiny take place as well as moderation, both for NEA and exam work, each academic year and the subject is taught by specialist teachers.

Creative iMedia will equip learners with a range of creative media skills and provide opportunities to develop transferable skills, such as research, planning, review, working with others and communicating creative concepts effectively. Using these skills, learners will ultimately be creating fit-for-purpose creative media products by developing creative solutions in response to design briefs. Creative iMedia will also challenge learners by introducing them to demanding material and techniques; encouraging independence and creativity and providing tasks that engage with the most taxing aspects of the curriculum.
