Library and Reading for Pleasure

Crompton House School Library

The Library is a popular place to be within the school and has a great deal to offer you as a learner. It can help you with your studies and following your own personal interests. With over 10,000 books including a brand-new range of comic books and graphic novels, a selection of magazines, newspapers, PCs and Laptops, we have something to offer students of all year groups and interests.

It is supported by the Library Manager who is always available to explain to you how you can benefit most from the wide range of materials and of course Reading for Pleasure!

All students are automatically made full members from starting school in Year 7 via our interactive Library Management System ‘Reading Cloud’ enabling them to take immediate full advantage of resources. Books can be borrowed for a period of two weeks and can be renewed at any time at the information desk.

Lessons in the first year in school, will inform you how best to use the Library and how to find resources which are constantly being developed and replenished. We value our students input and requests when adding great new material.

Starting in Year 8, students are welcome to apply to be a Student Librarian. This is a fun and educational position that teaches teamwork, organisation, public speaking and responsibility. Our Student Librarians play a very important role within the Library and take part in several extracurricular activities.

In addition, there are several clubs, programs and competitions that students can take advantage of in the Library. An example is our Student Book Council, a student led team from all year groups who meet regularly to plan and discuss all things literacy related. They offer lots of great new ideas for new books, resources, reviews, competitions, extra-curricular activities and they create own termly newsletter.

The Learning Zone also has the following resources:

    • iPads
    • Laptops
    • Mini Cameras
    • High Spec All-in-One Desktop Computers
  •

We also have a fully stocked shop that provides all kinds of stationery to suit needs of our students at a discounted price. For a full list of items available in the shop please contact Mrs Cullen using the email address below.
