Sixth Formers launch new Year 11 mentoring scheme

Molly Mooney, one of our Year 13 Student Management Team, has worked with Mr Raynerd (Assistant Head) to coordinate a mentoring programme between Sixth Formers and Year 11 students.

The Year 11 students were nominated by departments for some individual help in a specific subject, our Sixth Form specialists have offered their time on a Monday after school to work one-on-one or in small groups with the Year 11 students.

With an initial focus on English, Mathematics and the sciences, the Sixth Formers are not only sharing their specialist subject knowledge, but also their top tips for tackling exam questions, planning essays and managing revision. With packs of questions provided from the departments in school, the first session this evening was a hive of activity for the Year 11s as well as their mentors.

Molly has worked hard to recruit Sixth Formers from each subject, as well as helping to prepare the mentors for the sessions. She said:

“I’m delighted that so many Sixth Formers have volunteered, it has been great to see everyone’s willingness to support the main school students.”

Mr Raynerd commented:

“We are really grateful to these Sixth Formers for giving up their time to help the Year 11 students, I know the students will benefit hugely from the Sixth Form mentors’ wisdom and support.”
