Year 12 Careers Day

Year 12 Careers Day Friday 13th September

On Friday all of Year 12 participated in a full day’s career event organised by Dr Whitworth, Head of Year 12. The day started off with our inspirational speaker, Eric Bishyika, a local young man who has set up his own clothing business and also helps others with their start-ups. Following this the students learned how to search for different courses on UCAS and where to look for higher level apprenticeships. We were lucky to have an admissions tutor from Leeds Beckett, Rob Rattray, speak to the students about making the most of Year 12. The students were introduced to the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), an independent research project which is open to all of our students. Our previous students, who completed the EPQ over the last few years, have all been given lower offers from universities of choice. The day ended with a careers fair with over 30 exhibitors, which was organised by Adele Fraser, our Careers Advisor from Positive Steps. Leeds Beckett University, Huddersfield University, Manchester University, Liverpool University, Edge Hill University, Chester University, Bradford University, University of Salford and Lancaster University were all in attendance. We also had a range of careers from Police Officers, detectives and the RAF to Dental Nurses, professionals within the Horse Racing industry and the electrical contractors M Group. Our Year 11 also attended the careers fair to help ensure they are as motivated as possible in this very important GCSE year.

Whilst the students may not all know the exact careers they want to follow just yet, they are all aware of the excellent opportunities available to them!
